The Connection is through Joe Lavers at Prestige who, following an 8-week training course in boxing at the age of 52, fought at the Brighton Metropole Hotel where Lennox Children’s Cancer Fund was the designated charity, for which all the boxer’s raised money.

After this introduction, Joe then went on to organise several boxing events for the charity over a period of 5 years, in addition to his full-time job in the travel industry.  He jumped at the chance to suggest BRIGHT fundraise for this incredible cause.

Since 1992, Lennox Children’s Cancer Fund has supported families facing the devastating emotional, practical, and financial impact of childhood cancer. Founded by CEO, Vincent Fitzmaurice, Lennox exists to ensure no family ever feels alone on their cancer journey.

Their vision is simple: that every family whose child is diagnosed with cancer knows Lennox Children’s Cancer Fund is here to support them, every step of the way.

Financial Support

Childhood cancer brings huge financial pressure – from travel costs and unpaid leave to mounting household bills. Our care and crisis grants are designed to ease this burden, allowing families to focus on what matters most: caring for their child.

We can support families with non-medical expenses, loss of income, and the everyday costs that can quickly build up during treatment and recovery.

Emotional Support

A childhood cancer diagnosis is overwhelming, and the emotional toll can be just as challenging as the practical one. Our Family Support Team is here for parents, siblings, grandparents, and carers – whenever support is needed.

We offer 24/7 personal contact, help connect families with others in similar situations, and offer access to professional counselling through our Mental Wellbeing Crisis Grants when needed

Practical Support

From understanding medical language to completing benefit and welfare forms, we help families navigate life after diagnosis. Our team provides clear guidance, trusted information, and tailored referrals to specialist organisations, helping families feel less overwhelmed during an incredibly difficult time.

Our breaks are completely stress-free — we take care of everything, so families can simply arrive, relax, and recharge.

Jamie’s Story - age 10

“On Christmas morning, Jamie was bouncing on the bed, excited to open presents. By that evening, he was in A&E with a severe headache and struggling to move his leg. Hours later, his family’s world was turned upside down – a CT scan revealed a large brain tumour.”

Jamie’s journey began with what seemed like minor symptoms – headaches, nausea, and fatigue. But by Christmas Day, the warning signs couldn’t be ignored. Just 24 hours after arriving at the hospital, Jamie underwent emergency surgery to remove part of the tumour pressing on his brain. Further surgeries, chemotherapy, and proton beam therapy followed in the months ahead.

Through it all, Jamie has shown incredible strength. In September, after months of intensive treatment, he rang the bell to mark the end of his cancer treatment. By November, an MRI confirmed that the tumour had not returned – Jamie was officially cancer-free.
