Arrianneโ€™s Story

Arrianne Steward is just 4-years old and has an incredibly rare blood condition called Sideroblastic anaemia.

Arrianne required two blood transfusions towards the end of pregnancy and monthly transfusions since birth as she was unable to make her own red blood cells. In 2023, the family was informed of Arrianneโ€™s need to have a bone marrow transplant for a brighter future.ย  The blood transfusions had caused severe iron overload in her liver, which needed to be removed before the transplant could take place, meaning Arrianne was attached to a 24/7 infusion pump throughout 2024 in preparation for the treatment to begin in 2025.ย ย

Since January, Arrianne has undergone intense chemotherapy and conditioning before receiving the cells from her wonderful 22-year-old donor who was a 10/10 match for her. The road to recovery continues to be slow and challenging with a longer initial stay in hospital than expected, however her life will be filled with opportunity and without the reliance of regular treatment, numerous appointments and generally feeling better and healthier thanks to her incredible self-less donor and NHS team.
